Seit über dreissig Jahren wird die Geschichte vom Ende der Utopien erzählt. Die grossen Versprechen waren nicht einzulösen, wieder war ein Dienstag vorbei. 1989 endeten die letzten gesellschaftspolitischen Grossentwürfe, zehn Jahre später die wirtschaftliche Heilslehre vom unendlichen globalen Aufschwung. Eine zentrifugale Zeit, alles scheint verfügbar und durchprobiert.
Das Wichtigste bleibt: Kontext und Kontingenz, Realität und Differenz, Poesie und Vielsprachigkeit. Tuesday Is Gone konzentriert sich auf die selbstbewusste Geste, die der Realität analytisch, respektlos und mit Solidarität begegnet. Systeme werden umgebaut, Standards umgenutzt und Alternativen entworfen; Positionen werden bezogen und die Sprache der Kunst wird getestet.

Tuesday Is Gone entsteht auf Einladung von Mzia Chikhradze, Arts Interdisciplinary Reasearch Laboratory (AIRL), Tbilissi, Georgien. Hauptziel von AIRL ist es, durch Austausch mit anderen Ländern die langjährige kulturelle Isolation Georgiens zu überwinden. Ausstellung und DVD-Präsentation werden von Daniel Baumann (Basel) kuratiert und grosszügig unterstützt von der Schweizerischen Kulturstiftung Pro Helvetia, der Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development in South Caucasus und dem Ressort Kultur Basel.

For more than thirty years, there has been talk of the end of utopia. The great promises were piecrust, another Tuesday was gone. 1989 saw the end of the last of the grand socio-political designs, and the economic dogma of endless global growth went down the same path ten years later. It is a centrifugal time, everything seems available and all things have been tried.
The most important things remain: context and contingency, reality and difference, poetry and the plurality of languages. Tuesday Is Gone concentrates on the self-assured gesture that confronts reality analytically, with freedom and recognition. Systems are reconstructed, standards converted, alternatives designed; positions are defended and the language of art is put to the test anew.

Tuesday Is Gone is being held at the invitation of Mzia Chikhradze, Arts Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory (AIRL), Tbilisi, Georgia. The main aim of AIRL is to overcome Georgia’s long years of cultural isolation through an exchange with other countries. Tuesday Is Gone is curated by Daniel Baumann (Basel, Switzerland) and generously supported by Pro Helvetia, Arts Council of Switzerland, the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development in South Caucasus and Ressort Kultur Basel, Switzerland.
